First off I just want to say thank you for reading this as there are a lot of people gagging for the attention ;)
Teamukfollowbac has just gone through the 80,000 followers mark and I wanted somewhere I could actually thank you all properly!
Pretty dam sick to think were actually getting towards finally competing with these other profiles on twitter who are scamming others, BAD NEWS for them as my number 1 goal was always to show teamfollowback was able to be done without ripping good people off!
I've been asked recently about the dm scams and how they work and what to do when you have clicked the link.. Seriously?!? if you clicked the link in the first place just give your head a little wobble and think who's gonna be taking pictures of you that you didn't know about ;) lol jokes aside here is some information that might help...
Phishing is a deceitful process by which an attempt is made to acquire sensitive information such as Twitter usernames and passwords. The bad guys masquerade as someone you trust and may send you a Direct Message (DM) with a link. This DM may say something along the lines of, "LOL that you??" followed by a link to a fake Twitter login page. If you enter your credentials on that fraudulent page, the phishers can sign in as you and trick more people.
Anatomy of A Phishing Scam
Generally a phishing attack against Twitter users breaks down to a three-part process. First, accounts compromised in the manner described above send out messages to all accounts following them. Second, accounts that are newly compromised send out more messages. Third, the scammers behind the phishing attack make an attempt at monetization by sending out spam links instead of links to a fake login page.
We want Twitter to be a safe and open community. This help page provides some information and tips to help you practice safe Tweeting and keep your account secure. Here are some basics:
- Use a strong password.
- Watch out for suspicious links, and always make sure you’re on Twitter.com before you enter your login information.
- Don't give your username and password out to untrusted third-parties, especially those promising to get you followers or make you money.
- Make sure your computer and operating system is up-to-date with the most recent patches, upgrades, and anti-virus software.
Twitter Sexy Profile Pics
How the scam works:
Never open a Twitter mention notification (of you) coming from somebody who has a very sexy woman as a profile picture. Since Twitter doesn’t allow users to send direct messages to somebody who is not following them, the scammers tag you in their spamming posts, in order to get your attention. The posts contain a link which, when opened, sends you to a porn site or Russian bride page, and downloads a virus.
How to avoid:
How to avoid:
Don’t click on the link, just go straight to Twitter's report page and report the scammer. Prior to that, click on the scammer’s username: you’ll notice that she (he) has 0 followers, but 300 tweets. #Dodgy!!
Remember be careful on twitter there are some real nasty people out there trying to screw you for personal gain!
For now I want to again say thank you anyone and everyone who has helped us and continues to do so because without you Tukfb would be nothing and know the retweets, favourites and help is and always will be appreciated!
Rex
